Name: Ed S.
When did you first start CrossFit? November, 2011
Favorite WOD or lift: Back Squats
Least favorite WOD or lift: Snatch; I can’t do them because I don’t have the flexibility.
Do you remember your first class at Boise CrossFit? I first attended a free Saturday workout, and was shocked at how sore I was two days later.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit at BCF? The biggest thing for me is improved range of motion. I struggled to put on my socks prior to starting BCF. My stamina has also greatly improved, and my “spare tire” has almost completely disappeared.
What are some of your favorite BCF moments? While there isn’t a specific moment, what I appreciate is the camaraderie that has developed as we work together to complete the WOD.
What are your CrossFit goals? I have been to the top of the fitness mountain at age 24 in the US Marine Corps. My goal now is to slow the decline down the other side of the mountain.
Any advice for someone just starting out? Don’t fall and break a bone or lose time due to injuries. Err on the conservative side. Small steps forward will still get one to the same destination.
Anything else that you would like people to know? I greatly appreciate the true support that I receive from others in BCF and the ability to modify the workout to fit my age and body. The result is one does not feel old and outcast.

Favorite WOD or lift: I can’t say I have a favorite or least favorite WOD or lift. I just show up and do what I can.
Do you remember your first class at Boise CrossFit? My first workout was squats, pull ups, and a 200 m run. I don’t remember how many rounds. I was exhausted, but exhilarated. I knew this was what I was looking for. Two days later I couldn’t sit down or walk down stairs!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit at BCF? I have notices improved stamina and strength. This past summer I grabbed my arm for some reason, and found a muscle in there! Amazing!
What are some of your favorite BCF moments? Recently, we had double-unders in the WOD, and I miraculously did 26 in a row! I had never done a double under prior to starting CrossFit, and had not jumped rope for years, so I was surprised and pleased.
What are your CrossFit goals? My goal is to be healthy and strong, and to build rather than lose muscle and bone.
Any advice for someone just starting out? The effort is well worth it.
Anything else that you would like people to know? I have met a great group of people through BCF and appreciate the encouragement.
